When Things Don't Go As Planned

Yesterday I was listening to a song talking about that we still praise God because of who He is even if things don't go the way we think they should. It immediately made me think about the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. This story is absolutely one of my favorites outside the life of Jesus. But my favorite part comes when they say that even if God chooses not to rescue them from the fiery furnace, they will still not bow down. And then my mind went to Job who said that the Lord gives and the Lord takes away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.

So, thinking about all of this started me looking at my own life. Sometimes we think about these stories in terms of the "big" stuff that happens, death, illness, loss of job, etc.  But what about those "smaller" things? Do we still praise God because of who He is when we fail a test, get passed over for a job or promotion, when a friend betrays us, when our children are being disobedient, when we have a day that we burn every meal we attempt to cook and our children have had multiple spills? Or what about when the friendships don't come as easily as you thought, or the rejections are numerous, or you and your spouse seem to be on two different schedules?

This is me. This is my desire. I want to be able to praise Him because of who He is, not because of my circumstances. Everything is wrapped up in  Him. It doesn't mean that I will happily walk through the hard days but it means that, like Job, I too want to say "Blessed be the name of the Lord," no matter what.
